NEWS NOTES ON SUSTAINABLE WATER RESOURCES NAS Workshop on Groundwater Recharge and Flow http://dels.nas.edu/Upcoming-Event/Workshop-Groundwater-Recharge-Flow/AUTO-1-88-95-B On January 17-18, 2019 the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine, Division on Earth and Life Studies, will conduct a free workshop on Workshop on Groundwater Recharge and Flow: Approaches and Challenges for Monitoring and Modeling Using Remotely Sensed Data. The goals of this workshop are to examine research and practice in monitoring and modeling regional groundwater recharge and flow in various regions of the globe with an emphasis on the use of remotely sensed data. Recognition of quantitative changes in (1) demand for groundwater for agricultural, industrial, municipal, and domestic needs; (2) frequency and duration of dry seasons and irregular precipitation in different areas; and (3) land use and land cover will provide context for workshop discussions. Specific attention will be given to scientific results, technological capabilities, and modeling for regions where in situ measurements, observations, and instrumentation may be difficult. For those who may not be able to attend in person, NAS has provided a method for viewing the workshop via the above web site. This should make it available to interested persons worldwide.
